Lockdown, The man in the cubical.
This was the last project I completed in 3Ds Max before switching to Cinema 4D.
This editorial piece explores several subjects. I wanted to figure out how to do proper hair simulations and create a full environment driven by some narrative ideas.
The concept developed during the COVID lockdown. At times, it felt like I was “shitting where I eat” because we couldn't go anywhere, and the work-life balance became just work. This scenario reminded me of a dystopian society where people are just work drones, with no needs beyond food, a toilet, and a bed.
On the walls, you can see taped photos of a woman as well as equations scribbled. The idea was that this man had fallen in love at some point but lost her, so when he went mad, he decided to try and invent time travel to go back.
I actually did a bit of research, and the equations on the wall are inspired by some theoretical physics articles I found online. I figured this man, being just a work drone, would have done the same—googled some equations and gotten nowhere. That’s why the writings devolve into drawings at some point.
This is why this man, with a robotic leg, is just sitting there on the toilet, looking at his half-crouched laptop, waiting for an email or approval from his supervisor.
I plan to revisit this render and move it to Cinema 4D. Additionally, I intend to write a short story about this man and his life.
